Vincent d'Indy: Fervaal (1893)
| Vincent d'Indy - Fervaal, Op. 40 (1893) ( Opera-in-Concert (US Premiere) ) | |
Fervaal's fate was set before he was born: renounce human passion and save his kingdom. But that was before he met the daughter of his enemy. D’Indy’s great opera was inspired by Wagner, but Debussy and Dukas thought Fervaal was even better than Wagner’s epics. Continuing in the vein of Dukas’s Ariane et Barbe-bleue, Chausson’s Le Roi Arthus, and Lalo’s Le Roi d’Ys, ASO presents another rare masterpiece from the golden age of French opera.
